Glossary

Every word the app uses, in plain language.

Add / Link
Add creates a new person. Link joins two people who are already in the tree.
Adopted, foster, step, birth
The four ways a child can belong to a parent. Each has its own line style in the tree.
Avatar
A ready-made portrait used when a person has no photo.
Caption
A short text under a picture, recording or video in a gallery.
Connection
A link between the same person in two different trees. It joins what you see, without changing either tree.
Discoverable ("Being found")
A switch for each of your trees. When on, other people can search for it and ask to connect. Off by default.
Done
The button that finishes editing, or leaves a view. After Done, Undo is no longer available.
Edit mode
The state you enter with Edit Node, in which you can change the tree. Only owners and managers can enter it.
Forest
A group of trees joined together by connections, shown together on one screen.
Gallery
The pictures, audio recordings and videos of one person.
Manager
Someone the owner gave permission to help edit a tree. A manager cannot delete the tree.
Memories
All the galleries of a tree (or a forest) on one page, grouped by year.
Node
Another word for a person, one circle in a tree.
On-boarding tips
The yellow help bubbles that point at buttons the first time you visit a page.
Owner
The person who created a tree. Only the owner can delete it.
Passkey
The technical name for signing in with your fingerprint, face or screen lock.
Perspective
Seeing the tree redrawn from one person's point of view.
Pinned
A tree you starred so it stays at the top of your list.
QR code
A square pattern a phone camera can read. Asal Ku uses it to open a shared tree.
Share link
A web address that gives access to a tree to anyone who has it, for viewing or for helping manage.
Spouse
A partner in a couple, with a status of married, divorced or not specified.
Storage
The space for pictures, audio and video. Each account has 1 GB.
Tree
One family tree, with its own people, name and description.
Undo / Redo
Take back, or put back, your last change. Available until you press Done.
Viewer (view only)
Someone who can look at a tree but not change it.
